Tech In 10 Episode 2: PC to TV Movies

hey all, its your resident Techy Dude Kevear here again with an update to the new season in 2009.

First of all, let me apologize for the absence of pics from Tech In 10 Ep 01. One of my producers left his camera at home (LAME. lol) But no worries, that wont happen again.

Now on to the summary of last week's show...........................................

What we did on that episode was to show users how to watch movies from their PC on their TV's
. its pretty easy really, all u would need is a few cables and to make sure that the TV in question has the required connection.

The Cables needed would be:
Svideo Cable:

and an Audio Cable. RCA to be exact

from the PC and TV, an Svideo port

OR if ur tele doesnt have an svideo port, you need this adapter. Its called

S-Video Female to RCA Male

What we did though as i said earlier, was pretty simple. Below are the steps
Step One:
Connect the Svideo cable to the port on your laptop or desktop. This is usually located to the side of a laptop or at the back of the desktop
Step Two:
Connect the Svideo cable to the port on the TV in question. If the Tele doesnt have the port, refer to the picture above of what you need to correct that.
Step Three:
Connect the audio cable to the earphone port on the PC then plug the other ends into the TV
Step Four:
On the laptop, you have to press a certain key combination to enable the external display. See below for directions . Please bear in mind as well, that the key combination mentioned varies from laptop to laptop, please refer to the documents that came with the machine if your having problems:

First, realize that in order to enable the CRT/LCD keystroke you typically need to be holding down an additional key; on my Dell it's a blue "Fn" key. It operates very much like CTRL or SHIFT, in that you hold it down to enable the blue functions that are printed on the key tops. So in my case it's Fn + CRT/LCD to enable the external monitor.

Second, realize that it's not on/off. Pressing the key repeatedly cycles though a series of combinations. For example, each time you press that key, you may cycle through these combinations:

"... give the new combination at least 5 seconds to take before you decide it didn't work. Be patient."

• LCD (laptop screen) only, the CRT (external screen) is off.

• CRT only, the LCD is off.

• LCD and CRT both on, and displaying the same thing on both screens.

• LCD and CRT both on, but displaying different things - together they form a larger virtual desktop where the LCD might be displaying the right side, and the CRT the left.

And Voila, if you did it properly, your machine should be displaying on your TV. See, that wasnt hard , LOL.

The same thing applies when connecting your desktop to the TV as well, however, to enable the Dual Display, that procedure varies from video card to video card. Please consult the documents that came with your PC in order to activate the feature.

Tech In 10 Review

Hey all, its ur IT guy Kevear and we are here to look back at some things we did last time around.

The pic at above shows me doin the movie star pose (dun kno ^_^) for the show.

I must say that it has been a wild ride. Working with the various persons, doing the different segments, getting fragged (yes folks, i was shot and laughed at in Quake Wars), meeting new people and most of all, learning new things. Its Been Good.

Now lets get to some more pics, hope u enjoy...............................

This one was the Mac show............................i saw the Macbook Air for the first time in this episode..........................jah kno star di ting did mad!!!!!!!

I took it out of an envelope just to show how thin it really was i almost stole it from my lovely lady friend ^_^. The envelope in question is in the above picture.

Can i tell u i enjoyed that episode a lot.

This one was the PC gaming episode where i had ma Game Dog there. Needless to say, i was shot many times in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. Note to self, dont rely on the luck of a dog that you just met.

The poor thing looked scared outta his life.

And there he is sleeping on the job while i was being fragged.
That one was hilarious though. The aim of this episode was to show off online gaming and how to get started. As stated, we used Enemy Territory: Quake Wars for this. I was Laughed Out Loud at by one of the other hosts.
I got back at him in the next episode though, Online Console Gaming ^_^


The man was asking for pointers before the match begin. We were playing COD4 and lets just say that he and my knife became very close friends, they were almost inseparable.

The next one is a video editing piece. Now in this one, we showed off how to use Windows Movie Maker, and can i tell you, i never knew it was that easy to use
